
China Chowdhury / Taal Torongo
Taal Torongo is a London based institute of music and dance, which has successfully been spreading Bengali culture in the UK over the past 20 years, particularly among the second generation British Bangladeshis and Indians, primarily through ethnic and tradition dance forms.
Founder Director
China Chowdhury has received extensive dance training in Bangladesh specialising in Folk, Kathak and Bharatnatyam styles. She was a government staff artist with Bangladesh Shilpo Kala Academy. A well known face of the Bengali TV channels, Mrs Chowdhury has also represented her country as a dancer in prestigious international events. Presently settled in London, she works as a dance instructor in a local school and various institution like the Nazrul Centre (London) and BSK to name a few.
Performances of Taal Torongo
Taal Torongo has given widespread and varied performances all over UK and Europe like: Manchester, Birmingham, Luton, Wales, Scotland alongwith Spain, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and so forth. They have been regular among all the Bengali UK TV channels. Taal Torongo has been an integral part of the very popular Baishakhi Mela in London for the past 10 years. The artistes of Taal Torongo have shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artistes like Bappi Lahiri, Mithun Chakraborty, Sabina Yasim, Runa Laila and Sharmila Tagore.
Recent Project
Taal Torongo has recently performed first ever full length dance drama production - Nakshi Kathar Maath, which was staged in July 2009 in London. The spectacular dance drama was written by famous rural poet, Jasim Uddin. The dance drama is choreographed by late G. A Mannan, the legendary figure of dance history in Bangladesh. China Chowdhury from UK and Shibli Mohammed from Bangladesh play the lead role in this dance drama.
