Free NVQ training opportunities in Spectator Safety
Tower Hamlets Council has teamed up with The Security Training School to offer 25 people the fantastic opportunity to gain an NVQ qualification in stewarding.
The course, tailored to managing crowds on match days and other outdoor events, is a step in the right direction for anyone wanting to get experience in this area and could lead to permanent stewarding work.
The stewarding course is a Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety. As part of the course, the future stewards will learn how to manage conflict and deal with accidents and emergencies, as well as other crowd management skills.
The two day course is FREE and open to anyone who has been a British resident for three or more years and is age 19 or over.
All successful candidates will get the opportunity to put their training into practice at this year’s Mela, which will take place on Sunday 23 May to celebrate the Bengali New Year. This event draws in very large crowds - so it's vital there are qualified stewards on hand to help the event run smoothly.
All applicants must be able to attend both training days on 17 and 18 May at the Brady Arts Centre and the Mela event on 23 May.
Anyone interested in attending the course should email: catherine.boyd@towerhamlets.gov.uk or call 020 7364 7909.
